Events After Raditz Death in Dragon Ball Z
The Saiyan saga continues with Piccolo taking Gohan away against Gohan’s will. Piccolo plans to train Gohan in martial arts (making unofficially Gohan a part of Z fighters in Dragon Ball Z). Piccolo also tells Muten Roshi to inform others to train themselves during the one year time. This is to be battle-ready against the two approaching Saiyans on Earth.
Meanwhile, Kami takes the intact body of Goku to the underworld. He meets king Yemma and requests him to send Goku’s soul, with his intact body to train under King Kai. Krillin goes to Muten Roshi for training. Bulma who took away Raditz’s scouter, repairs and modifies it based on Earth metrics.

Before this, Bulma came to know from Piccolo that the scouter can be used to track other life forms. Goku as a dead man came to know that Raditz was sent to hell. He asked an attendant of King Yemma to inform fortune teller Kurenai Baba, to let master Roshi resurrect him after one year.

Without further delay, Goku began his 1 million miles journey to King Kai’s place through serpent road. Later, Bulma went to Kame house and scouts Muten Roshi, who possesses a power level of 139. Krillin displayed power of 206 and as for the old turtle (Kame) with them, it’s just 0.001 (shattering the turtle’s little bit of hope of getting a good rating).
Yajirobe came to inform them about the message sent by Kurenai Baba regarding Goku’s revival. On a distant planet, two Saiyans are shown to have completely subdued the planet. The two Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta in hopes of being forever young and be strong eternally through dragon balls wish, left for Earth on their space pods.

During their journey they stopped their hibernation and, came to a small planet called Arlia (planet of bug-like lifeforms) in hopes of selling it. Its poor condition due to the native beings’ constant war and exploitation of resources made it useless to sell. Both let themselves be captured by the ruling group of the planet to reach their boss.

The boss (bug king) after meeting them orders to imprison them both. After being imprisoned they killed the guards and indirectly save the prisoners (including saving the good guy of the planet). They killed the ruling group, the boss and also his strongest warrior (giant bug Yetti). Later, Vegeta fired a death beam through his palm destroying the planet completely, as the planet was useless to them.
Both once again started their journey to Earth. Yamcha, Krillin, Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu goes to Kami’s place for training. They were sent to a chamber where the 4 peoples’ soul was sent to the past to a different planet. It was a hellish scenario of skeleton corpses composed of Saiyans.

Two Saiyans (Scarface and Shorty) who did the rampage scouted all 4 peoples’ power levels, together to be 1507. All were quickly sorted beginning with Chiaotzu getting killed first followed by Krillin, Yamcha and last being Tien Shinhan. Kami explained to them that it was their soul that experienced the memories of the past.

Kami did this to let them understand the might of the Saiyan race, informing that the two Saiyans arriving are far stronger. All the above incidents took half a year time. For the next six months Yamcha, Krillin, Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu trained under Kami’s supervision.
Piccolo drops Gohan on an unknown wild and dangerous island to survive for six months, to be mentally and physically fit. Piccolo gives him clothes similar to Goku and a short sword, and then separately trains solo. At night, when Gohan saw the full moon, he transforms into Oozaru. In response, Piccolo destroys the moon (again!) and also removes Gohan’s tail.

Gohan travelled to many places trying to escape from Piccolo, experiencing many trials and hardships. Unknown to Gohan Piccolo observes him from far. In the end, instead of returning home, Gohan goes back to Piccolo. Piccolo finally started his intense training with Gohan, after Gohan became mentally prepared to train with Piccolo.

Six months later, Goku under many difficulties and opportunities finally arrived on King Kai’s planet at the end of serpent road. Flying and nearing the planet’s surface Goku was instantly pull-down and, faced great difficulty lifting his body. The planet’s gravity is higher than Earth. It is a tiny planet (Probably Earth is 10 times the diameter of King Kai’s planet).
Later after somewhat adjusting to the planet’s gravity, he met King Kai. King Kai explained the gravity is comparable to the destroyed Saiyan planet, planet Vegeta, and is 10 times the gravity of Earth (how convenient). Goku first trained with a monkey called Bubbles (very agile) by catching it, and then with a large cricket called Gregory (tiny and very fast) by striking it with a heavy hammer.

All this happened under King Kai’s instructions to let Goku adapt to the gravity and, increase his strength, stamina and speed. Before training Goku, King Kai demanded Goku to make him laugh with a joke. It turns out that making King Kai laugh is a no brainer (can’t help it due to living alone on his planet).
Goku trained under King Kai for 158 days in total, which as per King Kai is 1000 Earth years’ equivalent amount of training. After 5 months of training, it took Goku 0.8 seconds to catch incredibly agile Bubbles and 1.2 seconds to catch extremely fast Gregory. Goku also displayed to be able to use spirit bomb (Genkidama), which is King Kai’s one of the two strongest techniques.
Later, Goku was resurrected using dragon balls by Muten Roshi as instructed by Goku using telepathy, with King Kai’s help. But King Kai informs him that Goku needs to travel from serpent road which will delay him by a day. The two Saiyans arrive on Earth 1 month early, which starts the critical plot of dragon ball z Saiyan saga.
